Lantern festival just over, I have photographed full moon and shared with friend. Some of them asked me how to shoot the moon so clear. So i would like to share the tips here. First of all, we need a proper equipments to photograph moon texture.

Equipments:

  • at least 300mm lens.

  • release cable, remote control or self timer.

  • steady tripod to hold the heavy 300mm lens.

My camera setting as below:

  • Shutter Speed: 1/4
  • Aperture: f/11
  • ISO: 100
  • White Balance: Auto
  • Metering Mode: Spot

Besides the above, also make sure you have turn off the auto ISO. Below is the original shot and the moon is small :p

Now you need to post process your shots in photo editing software. I have used Adobe Lightroom 2.0 for this guide.

Import your original shot to Lightroom 2.0, click on Develop to enhance your shot.

Click on the icon above to crop the original shot to get closer to the moon.

Too not crop too tight, leave some space.

Adjust the contrast and brightness to enhance your shot. There is no definite value you must set, all depend your personal like.

Scroll down to Details to sharpen your moon to show out more details of the moon texture.

Basically you have done and the next step is optional if you want to add frame or signature to your final photo.

Here is my final result.
